I have practised exclusively in family law since 1998.
Over almost three decades, I have advised and represented clients through some of the most complex and challenging family law disputes, including complex parenting and property matters, family violence and coercive control, international and interstate relocation, surrogacy and reproductive law, and complex financial agreements.
My passion for this area of law has only deepened with experience. For me, family law is not just a legal discipline, it is the intersection of law, human relationships, and the most significant transitions in people's lives. I find immense satisfaction in helping clients navigate the journey from separation through to divorce, and in guiding them toward outcomes that protect their interests, their families, and their futures.
My role is to provide clear advice, strategic guidance and strong representation when my clients need it most.
A commitment born from experience to family violence and coercive control.
Family law is rarely just about legal issues. With almost 30 years of experience, I provide specialist advice in complex parenting, property and financial matters, particularly where coercive control and family violence is part of the story.
My commitment to the area of family violence and coercive control was shaped by an early and deeply personal professional experience; the loss of a client to family violence.
That experience changed the way I understood the responsibility of a family lawyer and became the foundation of my long-standing commitment to advocacy, education, and specialist legal representation for people experiencing family violence.
I have developed a particular expertise in family violence and coercive control, an area that sits at the intersection of legal complexity, risk assessment, and human vulnerability.
I help clients understand how coercive control and family violence operates across parenting, property and post-separation disputes and how to build the evidence needed to present that pattern to the Court.
I regularly present training and seminars to other lawyers and other professionals working within the family law system and speak at national conferences on family violence, coercive control and family law.
I am passionate about improving the way the legal system recognises and responds to patterns of controlling behaviour and the impact they can have on individuals and children.
Specialist expertise across complex matters.
Over nearly three decades, I have developed deep expertise across the full spectrum of family law, including complex parenting and property disputes.
In property matters, I frequently act for high-net-worth individuals and clients with substantial and diverse asset pools, including businesses, trusts, companies, and other complex financial structures.
I work closely with accountants, forensic accountants, financial planners and other specialist advisers where necessary to ensure that my clients receive comprehensive and strategic advice.
In parenting matters, I have extensive experience in complex disputes, including matters involving family violence, relocation, international relocation and child abduction.
I also have specialist experience in surrogacy and reproductive law, LGBTIQ+ family law, Binding Financial Agreements and complex property orders.
Not every case needs a courtroom.
I believe good family law advice is not about taking every matter to Court. It is about understanding the circumstances, identifying the risks and opportunities and choosing the right strategy. I am a firm believer that many family law matters do not require litigation and have undertaken training in both collaborative law and mediation, and I actively encourage clients to explore resolution pathways that reduce conflict, cost, and emotional toll.
Where negotiation, mediation, or collaborative practice can achieve a fair and durable outcome, I encourage clients to explore those pathways where it is safe and appropriate to do so.
I am a trained mediator and collaborative lawyer, and I bring the same strategic focus and rigour to negotiated matters that I bring to litigation.
However, when litigation is necessary, I am an experienced advocate. and regularly represent clients in contested hearings, trials and appeals in courts across Australia, working alongside specialist barristers where appropriate.
I also offer KHQ's Family Law Navigator service for people representing themselves; fixed-fee legal guidance without taking over your case. Family law navigator →
My objective is always the same: to understand what matters most to my client and develop a strategy designed to protect their interest, their family and their future.
Why clients seek my advice
Clients often come to me when their circumstances are complex, the stakes are high, or they simply don’t know what to do next. I believe one of the most valuable things a family lawyer can provide is clarity.
My role is not simply to tell you what the law says. It is to help you to understand what matters, what doesn’t, what your options are, and what I think you should do next.
My advice to anyone considering separation is simple: get legal advice early, and before you separate if possible.

"My best advice to anyone who may be considering separation is to get legal advice early, and before you separate, if possible. This is where a lawyer can add the most value. A strategic plan at this stage can set the foundation for a positive outcome and, in many cases, avoid lengthy and costly court proceedings."
